Iowa City, IA -- A Waterloo, Iowa woman accuses a facility
that performs abortions and its abortion practitioner
for performing what she called an incomplete septic
abortion that has made her unable to bear children,
a malpractice suit filed Wednesday in Johnson County
District Court said. Shaleea Tomlinson is suing the
Emma Goldman Clinic abortion facility and abortion practitioner
Robert M. Kretzschmar for compensatory damages. According
to the lawsuit, Tomlinson underwent an abortion on Aug.
31, 1998. Tomlinson alleges in the suit that Kretzschmar
failed to complete the abortion, which consequently
damaged her body and her reproductive organs. The suit
states Tomlinson suffered blood clots and septic infection
after the abortion, and that the abortion caused her
to "suffer an inability to maintain subsequent pregnancies."
Tomlinson said she has been unable to work off and on
since the abortion. Karen Kubby, director of the abortion
business, said she had just been served the complaint
and could not yet comment. She said Kretzschmar has
been employed since the mid-1980s to perform abortions.
Kretzschmar could not be reached for comment. |
